The Fiery Heart is the fourth book in Richelle Mead’s Bloodlines series. If you haven’t read this series you definitely should because it is amazing. The series revolves around Sydney, an eighteen year old alchemist, and a group of moroi (vampires) and dhampirs (half human half vampire). I’m going to be talking about the beginning and ending of the book along with my favorite part. There will be spoilers in this review so if you haven’t read the books then you should go read them and come back later and we can talk more about it!
The book starts off from Adrian’s point of view, which I must say was an unexpected surprise. It was nice to get into Adrian’s head and see things through his eyes. Another interesting part was when Sydney joined up with Ms. T’s group. Seeing Sydney fall farther away from her alchemist ways goes to show how much she has changed. What would have made this book ten times better would have been if Zoe wasn’t in it. She just came and wrecked everything the group had going for them. She made it so hard for Adrian and Sydney to be together. So when the two of them got to go to court I knew it was going to be great.
My favorite part had to be when Adrian got the call from Lissa saying that he had to go to court and to bring Sydney along. It seemed like they were going to have a perfect little vacation with no interruptions. However, it was almost ruined by Adrian’s old friends who showed up talking about dabbling and wanting Sydney to party with them. Adrian diffused the situation only to have it brought up again by Rose. This caused Sydney to get angry at Adrian and walk out in the middle of the night where a bunch of vampires live. Of course things get worse before they get better. Adrian’s friends showed up again and this time they acted on their words. They tried to force Sydney to go with them but Adrian saved the day. When Lissa caught wind of the fiasco she sent Sydney and Adrian packing. They didn’t get very far because of the terrible storm and then their car went off the road. I thought that a strigoi was going to attack and it would be Dmitri all over again. Thankfully that didn’t happen and it turned out to be a good thing for Sydney and Adrian. They went to an inn and finally got to be truly alone. Unfortunately, good things don’t last forever and something tragic had to happen.
The ending was heartbreaking! I knew when Sydney didn’t show up at Ms. T’s on time that something was wrong. Then Eddie showed up with the little dragon and it just went downhill from there. Adrian was heartbroken over Sydney being took, Eddie was upset that he had let Sydney get taken, and Sydney was locked up in some Alchemist cell. I have no clue how this is all going to play out but I cant wait for the next book, Silver Shadows, to come out during the summer of 2014.
